MOA

• Azithromycin, like all macrolide antibiotics, prevents bacteria from growing by interfering with their ability to make proteins. It acts by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit of susceptible microorganisms and, thus, interfering with microbial protein synthesis. Due to the differences in the way proteins are made in bacteria and humans, macrolide antibiotics do not interfere with humans’ ability to make proteins.
